FAQ: Can I Legally Conceal Carry At Rosie O'Grady's Restaurant/Pub?
Ask The Michigan Firearms Instructor
Q: Hello, Rick. I enjoy the "Ask The Firearm Expert" feature. I go to Rosie O Grady's from time to time. The sign out front calls it a Restaurant / Pub. How is this handled? Can we (conceal) carry there because it is called a restaurant or is it a no carry zone because it is a Pub?
A: The Michigan CPL statute refers to a bar (i.e. one of several specified Pistol-FREE Zones) as a place which generates at least half of its gross revenues from the sale of alcohol sold by the glass that is to be consumed on the premises. Although I am not their accountant, in my opinion, I would assume that it is bar. As such, you can't legally conceal carry your handgun there. However, there is an exemption in the law that allows CPL-holders to carry legally in a bar if they Open Carry but you would probably be asked to leave or to secure your firearm in your vehicle.

You are strongly encouraged to not only conduct your own independent research but to also consult with a competent and qualified attorney before acting upon any information in this article. Laws covering self-defense, lethal force, firearms, and the Michigan Concealed Pistol License and their enforcement are always subject to change due to laws being amended, politics conducted in the Prosecutor's Office, and election results at all levels of government. Ignorance of the law, legally speaking, is not a valid excuse for running afoul of it. The penalties and fines imposed upon violators of firearms related offenses are stiff and severe.
