Legally Armed in Detroit presents "Lethal Force Aftermath: Survivor Stories 3"

Saturday, March 9, 2024 - 12 Noon to 2:00PM
Admission is 100% FREE to attend. FREE Registration is required.
Liberty General Baptist Church, 3545 Joslyn Rd., Auburn Hills, MI

https://www.eventbee.com/v/legally-armed-in-detroit-presents-lethal-force-aftermath-survivor-stories-3/event?eid=206912911

Attend to hear factual real-life "Survivor Stories" from our latest panel of invited speakers who were forced to fend for themselves after being selected for victimization.

What You Will Hear and Learn

Our last "Survivor Stories" panel shared their deeply personal stories before our group of attendees who intently listened to their tales of survival. Most folks present took detailed notes and asked profound questions to find lessons and strategies to enhance their own personal protection plans.

The last panel discussion and presentation of individual testimonies was predicted to be the only time an event of this type would ever be held. Fortunately, we were able to coax another group of courageous survivors to step forward and share their experiences to possibly help other law-abiding citizens.

Each of our invited speakers are not employed by any law enforcement agencies. As such, they are "regular" every-day citizens such as yourself who managed to survive the worse 60 seconds of their lives.

Listen to our panelists individually share their mindset and level of awareness before they were attacked and compare that with the lessons they learned in the aftermath.

Discover the realities of being attacked and how they each managed to survive their lethal force encounters. Info shared at this seminar can help you survive, if you are ever targeted by purveyors of violence.

Also, you will hear their individual accounts of what happened in the aftermath. Our confirmed panelists have widely varying experiences. One panelist was severely injured and is here to tell the his story. The other panelist was forced to use defensive force against a determined adversary.

Both panelists will answer your questions about surviving a violent attack.

This seminar is the latest educational module in our Lethal Force Aftermath series. Due to the difficulty of finding survivors of lethal force encounters willing to publicly speak about their experiences, it is possible that this event may never be duplicated.

If there is another installment of this series, it will only happen if we can find another group of survivors who want to share their stories. As such, this event is one-of-a-kind and will never be repeated.
Thus, if you are a serious student of lethal force and want to avail yourself of timely and relevant info on the subject, this seminar is a true "must see" event. We heard nothing but rave reviews of the prior presentation.

The Seminar is free and parking is plentiful. However, to limit the number of attendees to aptly suit the venue, a FREE online RSVP is required. Please do not register if you can't attend this one-of-a-kind event.

RSVP (FREE): https://www.eventbee.com/v/legally-armed-in-detroit-presents-lethal-force-aftermath-survivor-stories-3/event?eid=206912911

The seminar will be held on Saturday, March 9th, at Liberty General Baptist Church, 3545 Joslyn Rd., Auburn Hills, MI - between 12 Noon and 2pm.

Testimonials From other modules in our ongoing "Lethal Force Aftermath" Seminars:

"The event was great. I personally am much more informed because of the seminar. All of the panel did a excellent job and gave really good insight."
~ Mr. Edward L. Smith

"This past Saturday's seminar was excellent..the great acting skits knowing what to say & not what to say to the police...the bail bonds information & the firearms legal protection..yes I'd rate this event 10 out of 10..all the information was very beneficial so many people have no idea what they should actually do after a self defense shooting..great event can't wait for more future projects."
~ Mr. Derrick D. Adams

" The seminar was very informative on dealing with the aftermath of a self defense shooting. I really learned some helpful information regarding jail bondsmen, and legal protection agency. The acting was helpful also."
~ Mr. Thomas Jeter

"I thought the seminar was more than worth my time. The role-playing of the victims going through the aftermath of a shooting was an excellent way to educate the attendees on things to expect and the consequences of being unprepared for them. Having Law Enforcement, Lawyers, and Bail Bondsmen explaining the real world situation of being a victim of violent crime and having to use force to defend oneself or another and then dealing with the situation to minimize your liability both criminally and civilly was priceless. The idea of being able to have affordable insurance to cover the substantial costs involved in defending myself in the aftermath of a violent encounter will make me sleep better at night."
~ Mr. Ron Howard

"Good seminar covering the practical and logistical aftermath of a self defense shooting. Started with an amusing skit which outlined the timeline of events prior to an incident, through the interview, arrest, arraignment, and bail arrangements. The legal and financial implications of poor decision making and "excited utterances" were laid out in a much more engaging and clear way than the standard dry, death by PowerPoint. The perspectives of each group involved, police, lawyers, bail bond people and we the armed general public were addressed and ample QA was allowed. Well worth your time even if there was a fee, if only for the contact information given, especially the best Firearm Self Defense Ins program I've seen to date. A poignant reminder or a slap to the face of the unwary that self defense doesn't begin and end with a life threatening incident. Preparation for the unthinkable does not start with strapping on iron nor end with drawing it."
~ Mr. Wong Guy

"Thanks for having a free seminar. I learned so many valuable tidbits about the law and what "Not" to do. I really enjoyed the way the material was presented. Highly entertaining and educational. Thank You."
~ Ms. Laura Tolian

" I thought that it was a great idea to use a skit that walked us through a defensive use of a firearm from start to finish and then let each contributor give their presentation. I personally did not know much about how bail bonds worked. I was also glad to have the opportunity to talk to the folks from Firearms Legal Protection. I currently have a USCCA program and I am switching to FLP because in my opinion it is a superior product. I signed up for the family plan, and no, there was no high pressure sales pitch. I had been researching the different options for a while and this FREE seminar gave me the opportunity to ask questions and get them answered. Well worth the cost of admission."
~ Mr. Jim Zinke

"Seminar was great! Very good place for questions and answers for an encounter. Rick, as normal, I wasn't disappointed. Rick had An Officer, 2 Lawyers, and 2 Bondsmen to field questions. It's amazing the difference in perspective you get depending on who you ask. Officer Joe seems super honest and down to earth. Terry and (can't remember the other name) the two lawyers were point on. The two women bondsmen seemed genuine and helpful. Lastly, I'd like to thank Rick for his time and dedication to the cause. I suggest anyone who has carries a gun to attend the next one. Not only do they offer advice, but there is an affordable insurance you can purchase as well. I purposely stayed away from that until the end because I feel Rick or Allen could explain it much better then I can. Thanks again guys!"
~ Mr. Kurt Flonta

"The donuts were great. I enjoyed the entire time from start to finish. Q&A were right on point with some really great questions being asked of all members of the panel. The only thing I would like to see expanded (I talked to Joe about this) is the psychosomatic things a person faces when put into a shoot / don't shoot situation & what the human mind / body go thru during the event of a shooting. This event was for sure a 10 / 10 - true story. It was really great to see fellow A2 supporters in our firearms community."
~ Mr. Matthew Oldt

The Seminar is free and parking is plentiful. However, to limit the number of attendees to aptly suit the venue, a FREE online RSVP is required. Please do not register if you can't attend this one-of-a-kind event.

We provide one-on-one shooting supervision in the shooting booth. We understand that you need expert instruction on the safe operation of a pistol from a whisper away.

Unlike the others, we do not have one instructor who watches five students on the range at the same time. We are right there with you each and every step along the way to ensure that you are safe while learning.

Finally, our Chief Instructor actually teaches the class. He does not rely upon the playing of out-of-date and boring DVDs as a substitute for quality and up-to-date instruction.

Our training is a 100 percent live and entertaining presentation which ensure that you fully grasp and understand the material well after you leave the classroom. My students see for themselves how fast the GroupOn classes are over before we reach the half-way point of our class.

Our Chief instructor has been training citizens, such as yourself, for over 18 years with a 100 percent safety record. We are especially adept at training first-time shooters, women, and seniors.

Rick Ector Quoted in Detroit News Story About Michigan's New Firearm Storage Law

Today, I was quoted in a Detroit News article on Michigan's new firearm storage law.

I do not support this law. It is reactive and does nothing to make anyone safer. It only doles out punishment. It would be more profitable if we trained children about guns in the beginning - not after a tragedy happened.

Ignorance kills.

February 10, 2024
FREE Seminar: Important New Laws That Michigan Firearm Owners Must Know By Valentines Day of 2024
During a prior legislative session, the state of Michigan passed significant and sweeping firearm laws that are of high interest and concern to anyone who is or will potentially soon become a gun owner: Red Flag Law, Safe Storage Law, and Universal Registration.
Legally Armed In Detroit will be organizing and conducting a three hour seminar on Saturday, February 17th at Liberty General Baptist Church, 3545 Joslyn, Auburn Hills, Michigan.
A representative from Firearms Legal Protection (FLP P) will be present to give a timely and critical presentation on how gun owners, who are charged with these new crimes, can responsibly and affordably defend themselves from potential criminal charges and fines brought by the state.
Attendees will be empowered with information and suggestions to limit their exposure on this newly emerging gun owner's landscape.
- Red Flag Law
This law enables the state to potentially raid your residence at gun-point with no advance warning to confiscate your guns. If you survive the encounter, you will have to legally petition a court at significant financial expense to have your guns returned and have your God-given right to own them restored.
- Firearm Storage Law
This new law provides for significant fines and lengthy incarceration in prison for persons who are convicted of not properly securing their guns.
- Rifle and Shotgun Registration Law
This new law provides for fines and jail time for persons who do not register their rifles and shotguns. These new gun laws go into effect in Michigan on Valentine's Day of 2024!
This seminar is specifically designed for the following people:
- Michigan residents who have guns at home
- Michigan residents who may buy guns
- Michigan residents with guns or CPLs
There is little time left to make yourself responsibly aware of these new laws before they take effect!
Not knowing these laws or claiming ignorance is no excuse! The penalties are potentially harsh, severe, and costly.
Penalties for violations of the new gun laws can be as high as 15 years of imprisonment and/or $10,000 in fines!
To meet the demand for this important training, one informational session will held at 12 noon.
Advance registration is required!
The class is free, but seating is limited.

How NRA Firearms Instructor Rick Ector Was Robbed In His Own Driveway - Part 11

How NRA Firearms Instructor Rick Ector Was Robbed In His Own Driveway - Part 11

What Am I Doing Now? - Training Is Still My Passion

My journey in the gun rights community now spans almost 20 years. As you have read, years ago I was ambivalent about guns until I was held-up in my driveway. Well, it did not take long before I made a few changes.

I bought a pistol and obtained my Concealed Pistol License. I spent a lot of time studying personal protection until I made the decision to become an instructor. It did not take long before I became a person who trains citizens to be instructors - Training Counselor.

I then became interested in empowering women. I did not talk about it earlier, but one day I saw a TV news story about a woman's nude and deceased body being found in a field. In the aftermath, I felt the urge to do something. I asked a few firearms instructors I knew to help me train a class of 50 women how to shoot a pistol - for free.

Fast-forward to now, my group of volunteers and sponsors are now preparing for the 13th annual version of this event. Cumulatively, almost 9,000 ladies have been trained for free. The program will top over 10,000 participants this year. Keep watching my social media and I will keep you updated.

How NRA Firearms Instructor Rick Ector Was Robbed In His Own Driveway - Part 10

A Responsible Gun Owner Needs Training

How NRA Firearms Instructor Rick Ector Was Robbed In His Own Driveway - Part 10

During the class, I learned a staggering amount of information about the safe usage, storage, loading, unloading, handling, purchasing, transporting, and maintenance of firearms. Before that day, I truly did not know how much I did not know about firearms.

I was introduced to the nomenclature of all of the firearm’s constituent parts on both a revolver and a semi-automatic, learned how the parts inter-operated to create a discharge, learned the legal aspects of self defense and lethal force, learned how the media and “certain powers that be” distort the truth and spread outright lies about handguns, learned the proper fundamentals of shooting a firearm, learned a few shooting stances, and learned how to become a more hardened target.

How NRA Firearms Instructor Rick Ector Was Robbed In His Own Driveway - Part 9

How NRA Firearms Instructor Rick Ector Was Robbed In His Own Driveway - Part 9

I’ll Do Or Try Almost Anything Once – Even Shoot A Gun

So, my big adventure continued as I went to a local range to shoot a handgun for the very first time in my life. For the record, it is not recommended to visit a firing range without first taking a gun safety class or at the very least taking along a knowledgeable shooter with you.

In fact, it is dangerous. I didn’t know any better. You have read this passage, so now you know. Ignorance kills. The Bible says, “My people perish for lack of knowledge.”

I didn’t know what I didn’t know. I was lucky. Any number of things, all of them bad, could have happened that day. Fortunately for me, I checked my ego at the door and asked someone behind the counter for help.

I got a very basic introduction but critical 20 second tutorial: Don’t load it until you are in the booth, Always keep the gun pointed downrange, Position your hands so that they are not in the path of the slide, and unload the gun before you leave the booth.

I managed not to hurt myself or anyone else. However, if I had experienced a hang fire or a squib load in the booth, things may have turned out differently. I must say that I was rather proud of myself after shooting.

Shooting was an enjoyable experience. It was a blast – pun intended. My adrenaline was pumping; I was high off of shooting a gun. I guess I had just found myself a new and exciting hobby.

As I was driving home from the range that afternoon, still mentally digesting the requirements for the CPL, I had arrived at an intersection whereby the stoplight had just turned red. The car in front of mine had an advertisement on the back of it for a "CCW Class."

More than ever, I believe that when your mind is truly ready for something, the Lord will make it appear. This situation merely provided confirmation. I immediately called the displayed phone number and discovered that there was a class being held on the very next day. I RSVP’d and took the class on the very next day.

How NRA Firearms Instructor Rick Ector Was Robbed In His Own Driveway - Part 8

How NRA Firearms Instructor Rick Ector Was Robbed In His Own Driveway - Part 8

Pure luck, it seems, brought a gun into my possession that fit my hand perfectly. I couldn’t test fire it, as the shop didn’t have a range. So I had to “take it on faith” that I could handle shooting it. I must have filled out a ream of paperwork that day; it was like closing on a house.

Anyhow, it’s funny now recounting the experience, but I was – in all truth – nervous while carrying my new encased gun from the back entrance of the shop to my car. I mused how ironic and funny it would be if I was to now be robbed of my new gun at the gun shop.

My next stop on my personal armament tour would be to venture back downtown to police headquarters to have my new firearm “safety inspected.” Before having my gun inspected, I had no idea of what tests they were going to perform to properly test my gun.

After they safety inspected my gun, I am still ignorant to the process even though I witnessed it with my very own eyes. Bottom line: by the time I left police headquarters this time, my name, my personal info, and the fact that I owned a handgun were now entered into a database.

On my departure from police headquarters I picked up a copy of an application for a Concealed Pistol License (CPL) from the front desk. I opened the envelope and read the application. It was rather lengthy but informative. I figured that I would peruse it more thoroughly in my car. Right before I left the building, I asked a near-by police officer for a place where I could go and shoot my new gun. He specified a range and told me how to get there.

How NRA Firearms Instructor Rick Ector Was Robbed In His Own Driveway - Part 7

How NRA Firearms Instructor Rick Ector Was Robbed In His Own Driveway - Part 7

A Journey Of A Thousand Miles Begins With One Step – Gun Ownership

Anyhow, after filing the crime report at my not-so-local neighborhood police station, I headed downtown to acquire a “Ten Day Purchase Permit.” The Gun Licensing Department ran my background to see if I had any official governmental prohibitions – felonies – against owning a firearm.

Of course, the check came back clean so I was issued the permit. I was now able to legally buy a gun within the next ten days. If I had failed to do so (buy a gun), I would have to come back downtown to repeat the process.

Next, I went to a local gun shop without haste and bought my first handgun. I didn’t let the ominous signs – warning customers against pulling out guns because they might get shot – or the fact that all of the gun shop employees were openly carrying their guns on their hips, deter me. I had no idea of what to buy, so I bought the same gun that my brother-in-law owned.

“If it was good enough for him, it must be good enough for me,” I reasoned. I didn’t originally plan on spending several hundreds of dollars on my purchase, but my first and only thought was to buy the best gun I could “afford” even if a few utility bills didn’t get paid on time that month. My life and safety were worth a ding or two on my credit report.

In retrospect, the gun dealer didn’t offer me a lot of informed customer service. To his credit, maybe he assumed, that since I was a guy, that I knew what I wanted. In fact, I didn’t know much of anything.

My ignorance was my fault. The dealer’s fault was not asking me enough questions to allow him to best assess my needs. However, his insensitivity did not stop him from also suggesting additional purchases: jacketed hollow points and an inside-the-waist (IWB) holster.

How NRA Firearms Instructor Rick Ector Was Robbed In His Own Driveway - Part 6

How NRA Firearms Instructor Rick Ector Was Robbed In His Own Driveway - Part 6

I never bothered to research the facts on gun ownership for myself. I left that task up to other people to educate me through the media via so-called factoid public service announcements, speeches from various governmental officials who enact “feel good” legislation that doesn’t work or conduct gun “buy-backs” that can’t be objectively evaluated for effectiveness, and barbershop talk with many people in my community who discuss their feelings about guns rather than the honest-to-God facts.

My problem was that I allowed others to do my thinking for me on the subject of guns. I have since “in-sourced” that function back to the person I trust the most: me.

Everybody Knows Everything Until Something Happens

Well, something did “happen” to me – I was robbed in my own back yard while parking my car in my garage. Prior to this event, I did not see myself as a potential victim. I have always been able to “hold my own and handle my business” whenever I needed to do so throughout my life.

The mere idea that someone would have the audacity to size me up as a victim never crossed my mind. A gun in the hands of violent predators, who have no qualms about using violence or the threat of violence to accomplish their evil purposes, changes the natural order of the food chain. I then knew that I needed to make a few changes.

Consequently, I then chose to get on the playing field. To my surprise, I have been warmly greeted by the pro gun rights side and have been consequently shunned by the “guns are evil” side. Making the decision to own a firearm makes you a gun nut in the eyes of many ignorant people.

The uninformed and unenlightened folk will treat you differently and are prone to making snide comments about you. They’ll either tell you that they don’t “need” a gun because of where they live or they’ll demonstrate some Kung Fu disarmament moves they learned from playing Tekken on their PlayStation2 video game console.

They couldn’t possibly be more wrong. However, I’ll patiently wait until “something” happens to them and I’ll forget and forgive all of the ignorant things that they said and welcome them to the correct side.
