NYE: One Last Night For Bad Guys To Pad The Crime Statistics

NYE: One Last Night For Bad Guys To Pad The Crime Statistics

On this night in Detroit, you will typically hear the clarion calls for citizens to not "ring in" the new year with gun-fire aimed at the sky. Personally, I think it is more of an announcement that this home is not safe to invade than celebration.

However, make no mistake about it, anyone who does such a thing is a complete jackass. Those bullets have to come down somewhere. We all have heard the adage that "Bullets don't have names on them." Responsible gun owners don't engage in such behavior contrary to the promotion being ran by a local gun range on Eight Mile Road.

Tonight is a great night for bad guys to conduct invasions and burglaries. Many people, even in Detroit, go out to commemorate the new year: church, night clubs, and to see the latest phenomenon - the dropping of the Olde English D downtown.

We already know that the local police department does not respond to "unverified" house alarm runs. Furthermore, they'll probably be running around the city trying to respond to all of the gun-fire calls. Thus, expect response times, regardless of the way they are calculating them these days, to be noticeably longer.

I am not telling you to not go out tonight, but at least make your home look occupied and do not tell everybody on Facebook and Instagram that you are going out tonight to get "turnt up."

Additionally, watch your alcohol consumption levels and responsibly drink. There are going to be a lot of inebriated drivers on the road tonight. Furthermore, keep your levels of awareness on high. Bad guys are going to be on the prowl tonight looking for unaware and tipsy victims to rob, rape, and carjack.

It is not my objective to be a "Debbie Downer," but I do want you to apprised of the fact that tonight is the last night of the year for bad guys to do what they do - violate others.

In all, be safe, be aware, and be armed.

Hopefully, I will see you all safely into 2014.
