Ask The Michigan CPL Instructor: Is Disclosure Required On A Lake?

Ask The Michigan Firearms Instructor
Q: Good morning. Here is a question for you. I'm heading to the lake with my dad and son tomorrow for some fishing. Do you know if there is any disclosure information to the DNR if we got pulled over while fishing? Do I have to inform them of my CPL?

A. Yes. Michigan waterways are to be treated the same as roads. If you are stopped while boating, you are legally required to "immediately" inform them that you have a firearm in your possession. In addition, you would also be required to furnish your state issued identification and your CPL, upon request.
