Michigan Personal Protection Tip: Beware of "Apple Pickers"

Michigan Personal Protection Tips - Beware of Apple Pickers.

The Detroit Police Department recently issued a press release warning its residents to be aware of a growing trend locally and across the country - Apple Picking.

Apple Picking is a form of robbery that occurs when a predator spots a distracted citizen operating a high-end cell phone - like an Apple I-Phone - and literally rips it out of his hand and runs away from the scene. Some of these robberies involve physical force, the threat of force, and the use of weapons.

As such, citizens would be well advised to be aware of their surroundings and to avoid using expensive cell phones in public. Another strategy would include not buying and not using expensive cell phones; an inexpensive and unpopular communications device may help avoid drawing the attention of bad guys.
