Don't Be Like Marva, The Michigan Penny Pinching CPL Student

Don't Be Like Marva, The Penny Pinching CPL Student

Last Friday I met this young lady - a health care professional - while I was at the gun range making arrangements for a successful CPL Class on the next day. She showed me her target and it was apparent to me that she had not taken any marksmanship training. In fact, only one of her 10 shots managed to hit the figure on the paper.

Always seeking to encourage newbies, I told her that if she took a good CPL class, her results in the aftermath should be much better. She then told me that she had recently taken a CPL Class. I inquired as to which one and she told me.

Our conversation then got a little awkward, as I smirked. When asked what was so funny, I told her that you sometimes get what you pay for OR not get what you didn't pay for. She took the ribbing well. She then asked if I provided coaching services. I responded in the affirmative and gave my rate for lessons.

She scoffed at my rate for a lesson because it was almost as much as she paid for her entire CPL Class. I then suggested that maybe she should re-take her $59 class with her original instructor.

The moral of story: if you take a $59 class, you might need lessons afterwards which might be outside of your perceived value for effective training. If you spend only $59 for a CPL Class, your expectations should not be too high.

Don't be like Marva. Do it right the first time. Call a pro. ;-)
