7 Open Carry Tips For Michigan Residents

7 Open Carry Tips For Michigan Residents

If you are ever so bold as to exercise your God-Given right to Open Carry a firearm, you may want to consider adopting as many of the following best practices in your routine:

- Get Open Carry training from a credible resource.

- Obtain a Concealed Pistol License.

- Open Carry in a group.

- Lawfully use a recording device.

- Retain the services of good lawyer well versed in Firearm Law.

- Have a few dollars set aside for legal expenses.

- Exercise your right to remain silent after you have been detained.

Whereas it is true that none of the aforementioned are required to lawfully open carry a firearm in Michigan, sometimes a variety of things can happen. As such, it is better to be prepared for issues and not have a negative experience than to have a negative experience and not be prepared for it.

Furthermore, I am not making any value judgements about an alleged incident that recently occurred in Detroit that is making waves in social media. I am merely sharing what I believe to be in an Open Carrier's best interests while exercising his rights.

Moreover, I don't favor any mode of carry over another. I fully support all forms of lawful carry. I could care less if it is open carry, concealed carry, handgun carry, or long gun carry. My only issue is that it be done in accordance with state and federal law.

Finally, not knowing the law is not a valid excuse for running afoul of it. If you do not know the laws on Open Carry thoroughly, then do not attempt it until you do. Firearm law infractions carry harsh penalties and consequences.
